1:1 태초에 하나님께서 하늘과 땅을 창조하셨느니라. In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

1:2 땅은 형체가 없고 공허하며 어두움이 깊음의 표면에 있으며 하나님의 영은 물들의 표면에서 거니시더라. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

1:3 하나님께서 말씀하시기를 “빛이 있으라.” 하시니, 빛이 있더라. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

1:4 하나님께서 그 빛을 보시니, 그것이 좋았더라. 하나님께서 그 빛을 어두움에서 나누시더라. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

1:5 하나님께서 그 빛을 낮이라 부르시고 어두움을 밤이라 부르시니라. 저녁과 아침이 되니 첫째 날이더라. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

1:6 하나님께서 말씀하시기를 “물들 가운데 창공이 있으라. 창공으로 물들에서 물들을 나누게 하라.” 하시니라. And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

1:7 하나님께서 창공을 만드시고 창공 위에 있는 물들에서 창공 아래 있는 물들을 나누시니 그대로 되니라. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

1:8 하나님께서 창공을 하늘이라 부르시니라. 저녁과 아침이 되니 둘째 날이더라. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

1:9 하나님께서 말씀하시기를 “하늘 아래의 물들이 한 곳으로 함께 모이고 마른 곳이 드러나라.” 하시니, 그대로 되니라. And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

1:10 하나님께서 마른 곳을 땅이라 부르시고 물들이 함께 모인 곳을 바다들이라 부르시니라. 하나님께서 보시니 그것이 좋았더라. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

1:11 하나님께서 말씀하시기를 “땅은 땅 위에 풀과 씨를 맺는 채소와 그 종류대로 열매 맺는 씨를 가진 과실수를 내라.” 하시니 그대로 되니라. And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

1:12 땅이 풀과 그 종류대로 씨를 맺는 채소와 그 종류대로 열매 맺는 씨를 가진 나무를 내더라. 하나님께서 보시니 그것이 좋았더라. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

1:13 저녁과 아침이 되니 셋째 날이더라. And the evening and the morning were the third day.

1:14 하나님께서 말씀하시기를 “낮을 밤에서 나누기 위하여 하늘의 창공에 광명들이 있으라. 그것들로 하여금 징조들과 계절들과 날들과 연도들을 위해 있게 하라. And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

1:15 그리고 광명들은 하늘의 창공에 빛이 되어 땅 위에 빛을 주라.” 하시니 그대로 되니라. And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

1:16 하나님께서 두 가지 큰 광명을 만드사, 큰 광명은 낮을 주관하게 하시고 작은 광명은 밤을 주관하게 하시며 별들도 만드시니라. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

1:17 하나님께서 그들을 하늘의 창공에 두시고 땅 위를 비추게 하시며 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

1:18 낮과 밤을 주관하게 하시고 빛을 어두움에서 나누게 하시니라. 하나님께서 보시니 그것이 좋았더라. And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

1:19 저녁과 아침이 되니 넷째 날이더라. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

1:20 하나님께서 말씀하시기를 “물들은 생명이 있는 동물들과 땅 위 하늘의 넓은 창공에 나는 새를 풍성히 내라.” 하시며, And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

1:21 하나님께서 큰 고래들과 물들에서 풍성하게 나온 움직이는 모든 생물을 그 종류대로, 날개 있는 모든 새들을 그 종류대로 창조하시니라. 하나님께서 보시니 그것이 좋았더라. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

1:22 하나님께서 그들에게 복을 주시며 말씀하시기를 “다산하고 번성하며 바다의 물들에 충만하라. 새들도 땅에 번성하라.” 하시니라. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.

1:23 저녁과 아침이 되니 다섯째 날이더라. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

1:24 하나님께서 말씀하시기를 “땅은 생물을 그 종류대로 내되 가축과 기어다니는 것과 땅의 짐승을 그 종류대로 내라.” 하시니 그대로 되니라. And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.

1:25 하나님께서 땅의 짐승을 그 종류대로, 가축을 그 종류대로, 땅 위를 기어다니는 모든 것을 그 종류대로 만드시니라. 하나님께서 보시니 그것이 좋았더라. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

1:26 하나님께서 말씀하시기를 “우리의 형상대로 우리의 모습을 따라 사람을 만들자. 그리하여 그들로 바다의 고기와 공중의 새와 가축과 모든 땅과 땅 위를 기어다니는 모든 기는 것을 다스리게 하자.” 하시니라. And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

1:27 그리하여 하나님께서 자신의 형상대로 사람을 창조하셨으니, 곧 하나님의 형상대로 그를 창조하셨으며 그들을 남자와 여자로 창조하셨느니라. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

1:28 하나님께서 그들에게 복을 주시고 하나님께서 그들에게 말씀하시기를 “다산하고 번성하며 땅을 다시 채우고 그것을 정복하라. 그리고 바다의 고기와 공중의 새와 땅 위에서 움직이는 모든 생물을 다스리라.” 하시니라. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

1:29 하나님께서 말씀하시기를 “보라, 내가 온 지면 위에 씨 맺는 모든 채소와 씨를 내는 나무의 열매가 있는 모든 나무를 너희에게 주었노니, 그것이 너희에게 먹을 것이 되리라. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

1:30 땅의 모든 짐승과, 공중의 모든 새와 생명이 있어 땅 위를 기어다니는 모든 것들에게 내가 모든 푸른 채소를 먹을 것으로 주었노라.” 하시니 그대로 되니라. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

1:31 하나님께서 지으신 모든 것을 보시니, 보라, 그것이 아주 좋았더라. 저녁과 아침이 되니 여섯째 날이더라. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

2:1 그리하여 하늘들과 땅이 완성되었고, 하늘들의 모든 군상들도 그러하니라. Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

2:2 일곱째 날에 하나님께서 자신이 만드시던 자신의 일을 끝내시고 자신이 만드시던 자신의 모든 일로부터 일곱째 날에 쉬시니라. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.

2:3 하나님께서 일곱째 날을 복 주시고 그것을 거룩하게 하셨으니, 이는 그 날에 하나님께서 창조하시고 지으신 그의 모든 일로부터 쉬셨음이라. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

2:4 하늘들과 땅이 창조되었을 때 그것들의 내력이 이러하니라. 그 날에 주 하나님께서 땅과 하늘들을 지으셨으니 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,

2:5 들의 모든 초목이 땅에 있기 전이었으며 들의 모든 채소도 자라기 이전이었으니, 이는 주 하나님께서 땅 위에 비를 주시지 않았으며 또 땅을 경작할 사람도 없었음이더라. And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.

2:6 다만 땅에서 안개가 올라와서 온 지면을 적시더라. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground.

2:7 주 하나님께서 땅의 흙으로 사람을 지으시고 그의 콧구멍에다 생명의 호흡을 불어넣으시니, 사람이 살아 있는 혼이 되었더라. And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

2:8 또 주 하나님께서 에덴의 동편에 동산을 세우시고 그가 지으신 그 사람을 그곳에 두시며 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.

2:9 주 하나님께서 보기에 즐겁고 양식으로 좋은 모든 나무를 그 땅에서 자라게 하시니, 동산 가운데에는 생명 나무와 선과 악의 지식의 나무도 있더라. And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

2:10 강이 에덴에서 흘러 나가 그 동산을 적시고 그곳으로부터 갈라져서 네 원천이 되었으니, And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.

2:11 첫 번째의 이름은 피손인데 금이 있는 하윌라의 온 땅을 둘렀으며 The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;

2:12 그 땅의 금은 좋고, 그곳에는 델리엄과 얼룩마노도 있더라. And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.

2:13 두 번째 강의 이름은 기혼인데, 에디오피아의 온 땅을 둘렀더라. And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.

2:14 세 번째 강의 이름은 힛데켈이라. 그것은 앗시리아 동편으로 흐르더라. 네 번째 강은 유프라테스더라. And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.

2:15 주 하나님께서 그 사람을 데려다가 에덴의 동산에 두시고 그것을 관리하고 지키게 하시더라. And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

2:16 주 하나님께서 그 사람에게 명령하여 말씀하시기를 “동산의 모든 나무에서 나는 것을 네가 마음대로 먹을 수 있으나 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

2:17 선과 악의 지식의 나무에서 나는 것은 먹지 말라. 네가 거기서 나는 것을 먹는 날에는 반드시 죽으리라.” 하시니라. But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

2:18 또 주 하나님께서 말씀하시기를 “남자가 혼자 있는 것이 좋지 않으니 내가 그를 위하여 돕는 자를 지으리라.” 하시며 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

2:19 주 하나님께서 땅으로부터 들의 모든 짐승과 공중의 모든 새를 지으시고 아담이 어떻게 그들을 부르는가 보시려고 그들을 아담에게로 데려오시니, 아담이 모든 생물을 무엇이라고 부르든지 그것이 그 이름이 되더라. And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

2:20 아담이 모든 가축과 공중의 새와 들의 모든 짐승에게 이름을 주었으나, 아담이 자기를 위해 돕는 자는 찾지 못하더라. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

2:21 주 하나님께서 아담을 깊은 잠에 빠지게 하시니 그가 잠드니라. 하나님께서 그의 갈비뼈 중에서 하나를 취하시고 살로 대신 거기를 채우시더라. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

2:22 주 하나님께서 남자에게서 취했던 갈비뼈로 여자를 지으셔서 그녀를 그 남자에게로 데려오시니, And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

2:23 아담이 말하기를 “이는 이제 내 뼈들 중의 뼈요, 내 살 중의 살이니, 그녀를 여자라 부르리라. 이는 그녀가 남자에게서 취해졌음이라.” 하니라. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

2:24 그러므로 남자가 자기 아버지와 자기 어머니를 떠나서 자기 아내와 결합하리니, 그들이 한 몸이 될 것임이니라. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

2:25 남자와 그의 아내가 둘 다 벌거벗었으나 부끄러워 아니하더라. And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

3:1 주 하나님께서 지으신 들의 어떤 짐승들보다도 뱀은 더욱 간교하더라. 그가 여자에게 말하기를 “참으로 하나님께서 말씀하시기를 ‘너희는 동산의 모든 나무에서 나는 것을 먹지 말라.’ 하시더냐 ?” 하니, Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

3:2 여자가 그 뱀에게 말하기를 “우리가 동산 나무들의 열매는 먹을 수 있으나, And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3:3 동산 가운데 있는 나무의 열매에 관해서는, 하나님께서 말씀하시기를 ‘너희는 그것을 먹지도 말고 만지지도 말라. 혹 죽을까 함이라.’하셨느니라.” 하더라. But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

3:4 그 뱀이 여자에게 말하기를 “너희가 반드시 죽지는 아니하리라. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

3:5 너희가 그것을 먹는 날에는 너희의 눈이 열리고 너희가 신들과 같이 되어서, 선과 악을 알게 되는 줄을 하나님께서 아심이라.” 하더라. For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

3:6 여자가 보니 그 나무가 먹음직하고 보기에도 즐겁고 현명하게 할 만큼 탐스러운 나무인지라, 그녀가 거기에서 그 열매를 따서 먹고 그녀와 함께한 자기 남편에게도 주니, 그가 먹더라. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

3:7 그러자 그들의 눈이 둘 다 열려, 그들은 자기들이 벌거벗은 줄 알고 무화과나무 잎을 엮어 자기들의 치마를 만들더라. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

3:8 그들이 날이 시원할 때에 동산을 거니시는 주 하나님의 음성을 듣고 아담과 그의 아내가 주 하나님의 면전에서 피하여 동산 나무들 사이에 자신들을 숨겼더라. And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.

3:9 주 하나님께서 아담을 부르시고 그에게 말씀하시기를 “네가 어디 있느냐?” 하시니, And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

3:10 그가 말씀드리기를 “내가 동산에서 하나님의 음성을 들었으나, 벌거벗었으므로 두려워 숨었나이다. ”하니, And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

3:11 하나님께서 말씀하시기를 “네가 벌거벗었다고 누가 네게 말해 주더냐? 내가 네게 먹지 말라고 명령했던 그 나무의 과실을 네가 먹었느냐?” 하시니, And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

3:12 그 남자가 말하기를 “하나님께서 나와 함께 있도록 주신 그 여자가 그 나무의 열매를 내게 주기에, 내가 먹었나이다.” 하더라. And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

3:13 주 하나님께서 여자에게 말씀하시기를 “네가 행한 이 일이 어찌된 것이냐?” 하시니, 그 여자가 말하기를 “그 뱀이 나를 속여, 내가 먹었나이다.” 하더라. And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

3:14 주 하나님께서 그 뱀에게 말씀하시기를 “네가 이것을 행하였으니, 너는 모든 가축과 들의 모든 짐승보다 저주를 받아 네 배로 다닐 것이며 네 평생토록 흙을 먹을지니라. And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

3:15 내가 너와 여자 사이에, 또 네 씨와 그녀의 씨 사이에 적의를 두리니, 그녀의 씨는 너의 머리를 부술 것이요, 너는 그의 발꿈치를 부술 것이라.” 하시고 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

3:16 여자에게 말씀하시기를 “내가 너의 고통과 너의 임신을 크게 늘리리니, 네가 고통 가운데서 자식들을 낳을 것이요, 너의 바람은 네 남편에게 있을 것이니, 남편이 너를 주관할 것이라.” 하시더라. Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

3:17 또 하나님께서 아담에게 말씀하시기를 “네가 네 아내의 음성에 경청한 까닭에, 내가 네게 명하여 말하기를 ‘너는 그것을 먹지 말라.’고 한 그 나무의 열매를 먹었으니, 너로 인하여 땅은 저주를 받고 너는 너의 전 생애 동안 고통 중에서 그 소산을 먹으리라. And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

3:18 또 땅은 네게 가시나무와 엉겅퀴를 낼 것이요 너는 들의 채소를 먹을 것이며, Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

3:19 네가 땅으로 돌아갈 때까지 네 얼굴에 땀을 흘려야 빵을 먹으리니, 이는 네가 땅에서 취해졌음이라. 너는 흙이니 너는 흙으로 돌아갈 것이니라.” 하시니라. In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

3:20 아담이 자기 아내의 이름을 이브라 부르니, 이는 그녀가 모든 산 자의 어미였음이라. And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

3:21 또 주 하나님께서는 아담과 그 아내에게 가죽으로 옷들을 만들어 그들에게 입히시니라. Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

3:22 주 하나님께서 말씀하시기를 “보라, 그 사람이 우리 중 하나와 같이 되어 선과 악을 알게 되니, 이제 혹 그가 자기 손을 내밀어서 생명 나무의 과실도 따서 먹고 영원히 살까 함이라.” 하시니라. And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

3:23 그러므로 주 하나님께서 에덴의 동산에서 그를 내어 보내어 그가 취함을 입은 그 땅을 갈게 하시니라. Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

3:24 그리하여 하나님께서 그 사람을 쫓아내시고 에덴의 동산 동편에 그룹들과 두루 도는 불타는 칼을 놓아 생명 나무의 길을 지키게 하시니라. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubim, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
